When Technical.ly DC editors wanted to do a story on “the looming threat of cyber villains” and best practices for keeping good cyber hygiene, they reached out to local cybersecurity thought leaders, including Electrosoft CEO Dr. Sarbari Gupta, for tips.
In the article, Gupta described how Electrosoft arms its employees to stay vigilant. “Despite the fact that we employ only seasoned IT people, and many of them are cyber folks, we routinely send out reminders to our employees … to be careful, to try to make sure they can confirm who an email is being sent by. Because many times, just reading the name in the sender field is not quite enough,” said Gupta.
The article continued, “Even as the head of a cybersecurity company, Gupta … gets emails from people pretending to be her.”
The reminders help to keep employees alert. Gupta also recommends checking out free webinars and training sessions, as well as the resources available from government entities like the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, for tips and best practices.
