Electrosoft’s CEO, Dr. Sarbari Gupta, facilitated a senior cybersecurity leaders panel discussion at AFCEA’s flagship TechNet Cyber 2023 event. In the educational session, “Moving Toward Zero Trust Cybersecurity Principles,” Dr. Gupta defined Zero Trust and outlined some of the most relevant federal government policies and guidelines for agencies. Expert government and industry panelists also weighed in on the importance of the government mandate for agencies to adopt a Zero Trust approach, best practices, and potential gaps.
“Zero Trust adoption is, for most organizations, a multiple-year journey of transformation to build and align new government identity and access management skills, systems, and processes,” said Dr. Gupta. “It was a privilege to engage with other senior cybersecurity practitioners to explore the paradigm shift required to make Zero Trust happen.”

Session Description
The U.S. Government has embarked on an endeavor to improve cyber security, including critical infrastructure, by migrating to Zero Trust architecture with the deadline for executive departments and agencies to meet specific standards and objectives by the end of FY 2024.
OMB Memo M-22-09 states, “The foundational tenet of the Zero Trust Model is that no actor, system, network, or service operating outside or within the security perimeter is trusted.
Instead, we must verify anything and everything attempting to establish access. It is a dramatic paradigm shift in philosophy of how we secure our infrastructure, networks, and data, from verify once at the perimeter to continual verification of each user, device, application, and transaction.”
