Electrosoft is pleased to acknowledge that the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has released the Draft Special Publication (SP) 800-157, Guidelines for Derived Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credentials for public comment – see http://www.nist.gov/itl/csd/piv-030714.cfm. This guideline defines a technical specification for implementing and deploying Derived PIV Credentials to mobile devices, such as smart phones and tablets. The goal of the Derived PIV Credential is to provide PIV-enabled authentication services from mobile devices to authenticate to remote systems.
Electrosoft supported the development of this document over the past year under contract to NIST. “We are excited to see this special publication released for public comment. A mobile platform-hosted strong identity token that is derived from a PIV credential represents a significant step towards promoting the broader use of mobile devices for secure transactions.” said Dr. Sarbari Gupta, Founder and President of Electrosoft. “Electrosoft has supported the development of several NIST special publications and interagency reports in the area of identity management and cybersecurity since 2004. We understand the importance of these documents to the Federal government community, as well to various other sectors of the industry. We look forward to supporting NIST’s effort to respond to the public comments and to finalize the document.”
