On Wednesday, October 10, 2018, Electrosoft President & CEO Sarbari Gupta spoke at (ISC)2 Security Congress 2018 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her topic – “Protect Cloud Data from Prying Eyes!” – drew widespread interest as the cloud is becoming the preferred place to store all the data being created, gathered and shared on a daily basis.
Dr. Gupta shared her view that cryptography is essential for partitioning and protecting cloud data. But, as she explored in her presentation, cryptography’s ultimate effectiveness depends on the design choices and management practices related to the cryptographic keys employed. These choices, known as the cloud key management (KM) solution, must balance priorities such as cost, security level, privacy needs and compliance requirements. Dr. Gupta explored the various alternatives with her audience and ultimately concluded that applying commonsense design choices and strategies when devising KM solutions will lead to effective protection of cloud data, regardless of its security risk category.
